Why did you open this marketplace?
Most darknet markets focus on maximizing profits, often neglecting the persistent problems within the darknet. Archetyp market was a unique market in this regard. I think it has indeed became an “archetype” in some ways. The anonymity of the dark web makes it a good playground for innovation. I want to raise the bar higher and run a healthy marketplace that won’t steal the life savings of crackheads.

I believe Catharsis is already the best built market out there right now. Lot of thought and work went into it. I make a point of staying connected with both buyers and vendors, and constantly improve the experience according to their feedback. Catharsis has evolved a lot since it launched 10 months ago.

Are you a drug addict?
Nope. I occasionally treat myself with recreational enhancement. I believe in harm reduction and responsible use, but I am not a heavy partaker myself. I can’t afford to be impaired when I’m dealing with all this stuff.

Do you think drugs will be legalized in the future?
I think some form of legalization is inevitable. The war on drugs has been a failure, and more and more people are starting to see that. Cannabis used to be seen as “criminal enterprise”, now it is a billion dollar “wellness” industry. Humanity loves forbidden fruit. Regulating and taxing drugs is a far more sensible approach than throwing millions of people in cages. Legalization would mean better regulation, safer products, and fewer people in jail.

Are you not afraid of getting busted and sent to jail for an eternity?
Fear is a natural part of the job, even if you are only a buyer. Anyone who says they’re not is either a liar or an idiot. I take every precaution to stay safe. Fear is a good motivator. I believe in what I’m doing, and that makes it worth the risk.

Do you think something is wrong with the world we live in?
You’re interviewing a darknet market operator, and you’re asking me that? The world is a mess, and it’s getting messier by the day. But at least we can provide a little escape for people. If nothing else, we’re helping people cope with the chaos.

What would you change if you could change anything?
I would start with some form of legalization. Make sure people can get what they need without the fear of being arrested or scammed. I would make education about drugs a priority. Knowledge is power, and if people understood the substances they’re using, we would have a lot fewer problems.

Why the name ”Catharsis”?
It’s all about release and purification. People come to us to release their stress, their pain, their boredom. And in doing so, they find a sense of purification. And I think it sounds cool.

Do you have any tips to first time Tor users, security wise?
Using PGP and avoiding storing funds in market wallets are the easiest and most effective measures you can take. Learn PGP and get comfortable with it. Being paranoid can be good, but don’t have too much paranoia.
